If you’re a horror movie fan who enjoys being scared out of your mind for a couple of hours, you need to watch Netflix’s new horror movie Our House. While the premise itself seems creepy enough, the movie itself is so terrifying that many viewers who’ve tuned in admitted that they were afraid to turn the lights off even after the closing credits rolled. That sounds like a ringing endorsement to me!
- Our House has a classic horror movie setup. A guy named Ethan who’s a serious science geek is devastated when his parents are killed in a car accident and he’s left to care for his two younger siblings. He eventually creates a machine that can apparently bring back the dead… and you can imagine how well that plays out. “He gets more than he bargained for, however, when the device awakens the dead souls that haunt the house. As Ethan and his siblings attempt to make contact with their parents, a horrifying realization sets in: not all the spirits in their midst may be friendly.” Yaaaas, Netflix!!
- It’s seriously freaky. The movie contains lots of scary jump-cuts and as I’m sure you know, horror movie ghosts don’t necessarily come to brighten anyone’s day. Also, don’t forget that Ethan has two small siblings. Ghosts + kids = weird demonic possession type stuff that will bug you out. In other words, Our House is perfection. “Keep convincing myself there are shadow figures outside my room so am resorting to buying a night light… I’m 30,” one person wrote on Twitter. Another added, “Our House on Netflix was a lil scarier than it had to be.”
Admittedly, you’ll need to stick with it for a bit. While you probably hop on Netflix for entertainment that will grab you from the minute you hit the play button, Our House is a bit more of a slow burner. However, it will be totally rewarding if you stick with it, so make sure you don’t give up too quickly. The payoff is immense!
Our House is available to stream on Netflix now. The movie originally came out in 2018 via IFC so it’s not a Netflix original but it is a horror that’s well worth streaming this weekend. Come on, you know you’ve got time!
