How To Tell If Someone Has A Crush On You

There are lots of ways of telling whether your crush is reciprocated in the modern age. However, it can be hard to know what is a genuine hint and what’s just a sign of someone being kind. You don’t want to make a fool of yourself by misreading the situation, but you also don’t want to miss out on a potential relationship by failing to act. To help you out, here’s a helpful, trustworthy list of ways to tell if someone has a crush on you.

  1. You have similar interests. Maybe you find that conversation flows particularly easily, or they always have something to say about things that interest you. That might just mean that you have common interests, but it’s likely more than that. Think about all the times that you’ve talked about things that you love. How many times were they there? It’s possible that they heard you have certain hobbies and they want to be part of those discussions, so they’ve done their own research. That’s sweet and it probably means they have a crush on you, if you couldn’t tell.
  2. They always smile at you. This could just mean that the person has a happy disposition, but think about it. It’s far from an expectation that someone will just smile at everyone all the time. If they did, that would be a little weird and creepy. That means that if you noticed that you’re receiving particular attention from someone and they seem to always have a big, genuine grin on their face whenever you’re together, they probably have a crush on you.
  3. They ask about your friends. So many people want to direct the conversation to themself so that they can boast, particularly if they’re not really into you. However, when someone wants to know more about you and the people who are important to you, it’s a great sign. It shows emotional maturity as well as a willingness to think about the future. By wanting to meet your friends, it shows that they want to integrate into your life and potentially be part of your future.
  4. They tell their family about you. The reverse is also true. If it’s good news that they want to talk about the people in your life, it’s just as positive of a sign if they tell their own family about you. They could be asking for advice about how to handle their feelings for you or just mentioning you in passing (over and over), but either way, it’s a real compliment. Again, they’re showing that They’re mature and willing to be vulnerable.
  5. They make excuses to see you. This is a really strong indication that someone has a crush on you and is interested in dating you. First of all, it shows that they prioritize your time and schedule rather than expecting you to fit into their life. They aren’t trying to overtake your time. Secondly, it shows that they’re ready to make plans with you at short notice and focus on your needs. They’re leaving their ego at the door.
  6. They stand up straighter when you hang out. That shows that you’re important to them. They want to impress you, physically and emotionally. It also means that it’s important to them that you respect them and view them as stable and strong. There’s a lot to admire in a person who’s confident, anyway. I think we can all agree on that.
  7. They dress smarter around you. Maybe you notice a difference from when you first started hanging out versus the present day. That can be satisfying to watch the trend. It means, again, that they want to put their best foot forward with you. To put the effort in and show you that they want to make this work. So many people think that the bare minimum of sweatpants is what passes for fashion. Believe me, it isn’t. Don’t settle for that.
  8. They suggest that you hang out more. Okay, I know this is obvious, but sometimes we need to be told what’s staring us in the face. If your crush is always asking you to do stuff with them or trying to find ways to hang out with you, it means they’re into you, duh. People don’t go out of their way to spend what little free time they have with someone unless they see potential for something bigger in doing so. You can’t ignore those signs, and you deserve to take a risk and get on board with a new situation.
  9. They get weird when you bring up dating. Whether it’s you talking about a date you’ve been on or teasing them about someone you think likes them, whenever the subject of either of you dating someone else comes up, they get all weird and try to change the subject. Either you can tell they’re a bit defensive or they just get sort of sad and go quiet. Both of these are signs that your crush likes you and doesn’t like the idea of thinking of you with anyone else.
  10. They aren’t scared to lay their cards on the table. They like you and want a chance at building a relationship with you, or at least seeing if one is possible. Not only that, but they want you to know it. They appreciate how much of a catch you are and don’t want to miss out and have someone else scoop you up because they never plucked up the courage to tell you how they feel. You’re worth it for them. Simple as that.
