Ohio Woman Arrested For Calling 911 After Her Parents Canceled Her Phone Plan

Ohio Woman Arrested For Calling 911 After Her Parents Canceled Her Phone Plan Stark County Jail

I’m addicted to my phone as much as the next person, but I also pay for it myself and have ever since I was in college. However, 36-year-old Seloni Khetarpal was still mooching off her parents’ plan and when they abruptly cut her off earlier this month, it sent her into a rage that ended up with her being arrested and facing felony charges. Uh oh!

  1. Whose parents pay for their phone at 36? I get that it can be hard to make ends meet when you’re just out of college and struggling to find work or getting paid minimum wage, but cell phones are cheap as hell these days and anyone can afford a basic phone/texting/data plan. However, Seloni Khetarpal was perfectly happy to keep letting her parents foot the bill, and when they decided not to anymore, she flew off the handle and ended up with a criminal record following her arrest.
  2. She abused the 911 system. When you call 911, it’s pretty much understood that you must be facing a genuine emergency, right? Not so. According to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Seloni Khetarpal called 911 to send officers to her parents’ house in Canton, Ohio to… arrest them over not paying for her phone plan for her, I guess?
  3. She was warned not to repeat the behavior. The 911 operator told her that the service was strictly for emergencies and not to call again, but that’s exactly what she did an hour later, since she “believed it to be a legitimate issue.” She was described as “belligerent” when an officer from the Stark County Police arrived at her residence to arrest her.
  4. She’s facing fourth-degree felony charges now. Seloni Khetarpal isn’t just facing the indignity of being a 36-year-old woman who legit got arrested over her parents not paying for her cell phone but she’s also facing serious criminal charges for “disrupting public services.” While she was released from jail on $2,500 bond, her appearance at Massillon Municipal Court may prove to have some pretty dire consequences.
