11 Ways To Tell The First Date Will Lead To A Second One

You should never try to be what a guy wants, but rather be who you are and just focus on having a great first date. However, a little voice inside you can’t help but wonder, “Is he keen on a second date?” Here are 11 ways you can tell for sure.

  1. He feels you out for future plans. He might drop into conversation that he’s keen to go check out a movie that’s coming out next week to see if you’re interested in going. Or, he might tell you of a fantastic Italian restaurant a few blocks away and ask if you’d be keen to try it out. He might not straight up tell you he wants to take you, but it’s a sure hint that a second date is on the cards.
  2. He gives you “the look”. You know the look: he’s not staring as though he wants to rip your clothes off (although he might be thinking that, of course). He’s looking at you as though he literally can’t pull his eyes away from you. You catch him staring at you in this transfixed way for the whole date.
  3. He texts you within hours of the date. Even if he doesn’t say he wants to see you again — he might not do this out of fear of looking like he just wants to hook up — a guy who wants to see you again will send you a text after the first date within hours. While not a hard and fast rule, it’s definitely a good sign!
  4. He walks you to your car. Although this is also not a hard and fast rule that a guy wants to see you again, usually the guys who run out of a date or hurry to their own cars are not really thinking in terms of impressing you anymore because they don’t plan on seeing you again. A guy who walks you to your car is being a gentleman while trying to show you that you matter to him.
  5. He forgets his booze. If a guy is so interested in what you have to say that he ignores his drink, his phone, or even his meal, that’s a good sign that he’s super-interested in you and would want to see you again.
  6. He checks in with you. You’re together on the same date, but he doesn’t just assume you’re having as much fun as he’s having. He actually asks you if you’re enjoying yourself because he’s hoping that if you’re not then he could do something to change that.
  7. He draws out the end of the date. He doesn’t thank you for meeting him before rushing off. He tries to stretch the date, such as by suggesting a walk or dessert. He just can’t get enough of your company.
  8. He gets real. He might tell you how super-nervous he was to meet you or how much he was looking forward to the date. A guy who tells you such things on the first date wouldn’t really open up unless he was keen to see you again.
  9. He hints that there’ll be a next time. Maybe when you guys say goodbye, he says he wants to kiss you but will leave that for your next date. Or, when you offer to go Dutch for dinner, he says, “You can pay for the next one.” Aha! Sneaky!
  10. He doesn’t get too sexual. Is there anything worse than a guy who makes sexual references throughout the conversation? Ugh. It sucks and tells you that he’s only looking to hook up. If he treats you with respect while still being flirtatious, that’s a good sign that he wants to impress you enough throughout the date to clinch a second one with you. A guy who only wants sex isn’t going to care about making a good impression because he has nothing to lose.
  11. He keeps the conversation going. There aren’t any awkward silences or long stretches of time during which he’s glued to his phone. He works hard to keep the conversation interesting. A guy who does that is clearly interested in more than your thoughts on what you’d do with a million dollars or where you’d love to live. He’s interested in spending more time with you.
