Do You Have True Emotional Intimacy? How To Tell Your Relationship Is Deep AF

We all like to think that we’re close to our boyfriends—otherwise, we wouldn’t be with them, right? But there’s physical intimacy that makes you feel emotionally close to your boyfriend and then there’s true emotional intimacy. Believe it or not, there’s a clear distinction between the two. Here’s how you can tell you have both and your relationship is deep AF.

  1. When you have news, your boyfriend is the first person you tell. First of all, it’s not just news—you’re excited to share everything and anything with your boyfriend on a daily basis. And you don’t just tell him things first, you want to tell him first. He’s the top person on your call list and you couldn’t imagine not being able to share news with him. In fact, the very thought of it makes you incredibly sad.
  2. You don’t have any secrets. You feel like you can tell your boyfriend anything because you just know that he worships the ground that you walk on and won’t judge you—and vice versa, of course. Sure, everybody has their secrets, but you guys are an open book with each other. He’s got shit on you that no one else knows. It would be kind of worrying if you ever break up, but obvs that’s not going to happen because your relationship is deep AF.
  3. You never run out of things to talk about. Even if you’ve spent hours on the phone already, a whole week on vacation together, or six months in each other’s pockets traveling the world, you never seem to run out of topics to discuss. There’s always something to say, a new thing that you want to tell him, or a question that you’re dying to ask him. There’s never any struggle for convo and it never feels awks. #JustSaying
  4. He makes you laugh until you cry. You have similar senses of humor and find the same things hilarious. There have even been times that you’ve both spent hours in hysterical laughter, giggling like kids, over little things like a face he pulled or the fact that he put his boxer shorts on backward. You + him = #CoupleGoals.
  5. He genuinely cares about your well-being. Every day that you’re with each other, he wants to hear that you’re well, you’re having a good day, and your overall health and well-being is top notch. He always asks and checks up on you in a casual and non-overbearing way. There’s no denying it—he’s an absolute champ.
  6. You have long, deep and meaningful conversations. It’s not all, “So, how was your day?” when you guys speak to each other. (Thank God.) You regularly talk about your life, your future together, why the grass is green—you name it, you cover it because your couple convos are the best.
  7. He cheers you up when you’re feeling grumpy. We all have down days—we’re human beings, after all—but your boyfriend can’t stand to see you upset or grumpy. He knows exactly what to say to put a smile on your face, even when you don’t feel like smiling. He’s there for you no matter what and one of the only people in your life who can cheer you up when you’re feeling a bit crap.
  8. He makes you feel safe. You’re just so unbelievably content in his company and feel like nothing can phase you with him by your side. You can conquer anything together and weather any storm because you two are a team. And there ain’t nothing that’s going to get in your way. You two are badass.
  9. He wants to make your world better. Boyfriend wants to share your triumphs and take away your pain. He understands that he’s in your life to add value to it because he’s a bonus and you’re going to do you whether you’re with him or not. He just wants to be a part of your world (cue Ariel singing) as he genuinely thinks you’re amazing.
  10. No one knows you like he does. Sometimes it’s annoying how well he actually knows you. No matter what the situation, he always knows what to do and what to say. He’s your best friend as well as your boyfriend and you two are on your own level. You’ve never felt so connected to someone ever—and you know what? It’s a pretty nice feeling.
