Things Women Are Sick Of Hearing In The Dating World

Being a single woman in the world of modern dating is truly a challenge. The good news is that this dating culture is breeding more strong and capable women than ever before. The bad news is, there are often some very annoying things we hear along the way that we wish people would stop saying already:

  1. “You should try online dating.” By now, everyone has heard of online dating and we’ve probably tried it, are currently trying it, or avoiding it at all costs because of all the horror stories we’ve heard about it. The truth is, online dating was great a few years back, before the birth of Tinder destroyed its innocence.
  2. “My friend [insert name here] met her boyfriend on Tinder.” That’s great, but your friend is either incredibly lucky or an urban relationship myth. Finding love on Tinder is like winning the Powerball.
  3. “I’m not looking for anything serious.” While we appreciate the honesty, we know this line is just another way of saying “I’m just not that into you,” so please do us a favor and tell us the truth for a change.
  4. “Send me a pic.” What is it with men and wanting to see a picture of us at the very moment we’re texting with them? Tip: If you ask a woman out properly, you get to see her in person, which is better than a picture.
  5. “Here’s a picture of my penis.” Oh. My. God. Just stop it already — for real.
  6. “DTF?” Shout out to Jersey Shore for creating the single and most douchebag-y pick up line this century. Great, just what we need. P.S. We’re definitely NOT DTF. Guys who use this need to go away and learn some manners.
  7. Excessive texting that never leads to actual dates. The first few days or even an entire week of texting is great, but beyond that, we start to get annoyed. The trend of texting without it leading to actual dates is simply a huge waste of time. They need to ask us out already or stop blowing up our data plans. We’re not looking to date our devices.
  8. “You’re fat” and other insults from men we reject. Believe it or not, this happens a lot. Because modern dating relies heavily on technology, a lot of men hide behind their palm sized keyboards and spew insults at women when they don’t get the swoon-over responses they want. If you don’t believe me, just check out the @byefelipe or @tindernightmares Instagram account to see what women are actually putting up with these days.
  9. “I have commitment issues.” Cool story, bro. Perhaps if that’s the case, you might want to take a break from dating altogether. Just an idea.
  10. Cliche breakup lines. Unfortunately, dating breeds more breakups than happy endings and we’re no stranger to all the most cliche lines. “It’s not you, it’s me.” “I just don’t feel the spark.” “I’m just not ready to settle down.” While these lines definitely do soften the blow that comes with disappointment, eventually we do get sick of hearing them (not that there’s any way around them).
  11. “When I was your age…” This gets said to us by our elders a lot. We’re glad it was so much easier and different a couple decades ago, but crap had changed dramatically now. It’s not as easy as you think it should be anymore, no matter how much we wish it was.
  12. Silence, A.K.A. ghosting. Sometimes the most annoying crap we hear is the stuff we don’t even hear at all.
  13. “Why are you still single?” If we knew the answer to this question, we wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. But please feel free to analyze us and then tell us other crap we’re sick of hearing like “we’re too picky” or “it’ll happen when we least expect it.” The simple answer is that the right one hasn’t come along yet.
