Important Things To Remember When Your Boyfriend Screws Up

The mythical man you’ve been fantasizing about, who never talks back to you or makes you shed a tear, doesn’t exist. Yes, there are amazing men out there who are respectful, sweet, and romantic. But even the best boyfriends do stupid crap.

  1. He’s trying his best. News flash: The amazing boyfriend you have is probably someone’s loser ex. He wasn’t always as perfect as he is now, and he’s probably not as perfect as he’ll ever be. He’s still learning, and so are you, so don’t be too hard on him.
  2. The good outweighs the bad. If he’s genuinely a good boyfriend, then the stupid little things he does are probably inconsequential. They might be frustrating, but they won’t change your relationship in a drastic way. He’ll still cause you more smiles than scowls.
  3. Everyone makes mistakes. You can probably name a few times when you royally screwed your boyfriend over, but that doesn’t make you a bad girlfriend. It just makes you human. Being dumb is in our blood.
  4. Stupid crap can be caused by good intentions. He might’ve been talking to your gorgeous girlfriends behind your back, but it was because he was planning a surprise party for you. Ask him why he did what he did before you flip out about it, because he might have a perfectly good explanation for doing something seemingly crappy.
  5. Your stupid crap might’ve caused it. Don’t blame him for treating you like crap if you’ve been treating him the same way. No, two wrongs don’t make a right, but you should still take responsibility for your actions.
  6. Not every fight deserves a breakup. There are different levels of stupid. If he does something small to piss you off, then you should feel free to yell at him, but don’t threaten to end the relationship. You don’t want to lose the best guy you’ve ever met over something silly.
  7. An apology goes a long way. A good boyfriend isn’t incapable of messing up. He’s just willing to apologize for what he’s done whenever he realizes that he’s messed up. If he’s as great as you think he is, he’ll find a way to right the wrong.
  8. Perfection is a myth. At first, your feelings might blind you and trick you into thinking he’s more amazing than he actually is. Of course, after you’re together for a while, you’ll start to see his flaws. But they were always there, even when you thought he was perfect.
  9. His mistakes might have nothing to do with you. Maybe you’re pissed at him for waiting too long to text you back or for canceling plans at the last second. It doesn’t mean he’s mad at you and is trying to hurt you. He might be struggling with something that has nothing to do with your relationship.
  10. Each mistakes means he’s less likely to mess up in the future. If you’re boyfriend is as amazing as you think he is, then he’s going to learn from his mistakes. When he sees how upset you get over something he’s done, he’ll be less likely to repeat it, because he’ll never want you to feel that way again.
