Even if you think your relationship has been running smoothly, that doesn’t mean that your partner feels the same way. That’s why you should pay super close attention to the clues that he’s been giving you, so that you aren’t blindsided by a break up. After all, there’s nothing worse than getting dumped out of the blue. Of course, if you keep your eyes opened and watch for the signs that suggest he’s been thinking about breaking up with you, you’ll never be caught off guard again.
- He’s been spending less time with you. Does he claim he’s busy whenever you try to make plans with him? Does it take him hours to respond to your text messages? If you two go weeks without seeing each other, then it’s a bad sign. He’s slowly trying to distance himself from you, so that the breakup doesn’t seem as harsh.
- You don’t resolve any of your fights. If you want your relationship to last, you need to come to compromises whenever you argue. If he stops trying to work things out with you and never even apologizes when you’re upset, then it’s probably because he doesn’t see you two lasting long. There’s no reason for him to waste time trying to make you happy if he’s going to end the relationship soon, anyway.
- You’ve stopped having sex. Like it or not, sex is an important part of any relationship. If you haven’t slept together in months, then it’s clear that you’ve lost feelings for each other. If you were still madly in love, then you’d find the time to have sex, even if it was only once a week.
- He looks completely different. You should be weary if he starts going to the gym, buying new clothes, and wearing new cologne. He might be trying to make himself look desirable again, since he’s going to be back on the market soon.
- He changed his profile picture. If he changes his profile picture from a snapshot of you two kissing to an old snapshot of himself, then it’s a red flag. Even worse, he might change his relationship status to “single” or “it’s complicated.” If that happens, then you two need to sit down and discuss your relationship right away.
- He won’t talk about the future. If you two usually talk about your dream home and baby names, but now he won’t even agree to go to a concert with you a month from now, then he’s probably thinking about dumping you. He doesn’t want to make any long-term commitments, because he knows he won’t be around to follow through on them.
- He refuses to leave anything at your house. If he usually leaves random DVDs and sweatshirts at your house, but he suddenly decided to bring all of his junk back home, it’s a bad sign. He might be collecting it all, so he doesn’t have to return to your house after the breakup. He doesn’t want to have any excuse to see you again.
- His friends are acting strange. If his best buddies or his parents start looking at you strangely, then he might’ve told them horror stories about you. He might’ve even told them that he’s planning on dumping you. Don’t expect to be the first one to find out about your breakup, because you might be the last.
- He gets mad over every little thing you do. If you feel like you can’t do anything right, because your boyfriend has been complaining about every move you make, don’t take it to heart. Once he makes up his mind about wanting to break up with you, he’ll try to act like you’re impossible to be around, so that his decision feels justified.
- He stopped saying those three little words. If he used to tell you he loved you every single day, and now he won’t even return the phrase after you say it, then his feelings have changed. If he loved you, he wouldn’t hesitate to scream it from the rooftops.
