If you want to land a boyfriend, or just find more male friends, you need to “put yourself out there” more often. It’s a vague phrase, but all it really means is that you need to leave the house and talk to new people. The more strangers you meet, the higher your chances are of finding happiness. Here are a few signs that you need to “put yourself out there:”

  1. You think all men suck. This isn’t actually the truth. If you think that it is, then you need to put yourself out there more, so that you get the chance to meet the rare men that are actually worth your time.
  2. No one asks about your dating life. Your friends and family members are supposed to ask you annoying questions about relationships. If they’ve all stopped asking, then that means they know you’ve stopped trying, which is your cue to prove them wrong.
  3. You haven’t shaved since summer. You can search for a one-night stand or a dinner date. It doesn’t matter, as long as you find someone worth shaving for.
  4. You have zero male names in your phone. If you can’t remember the last time that you texted a man, let alone looked at one, you should think about visiting a bar or going out with your girlfriends. When you run into a cute guy, be brave and ask for his number.
  5. Your only crushes are on celebrities. There’s nothing wrong with fantasizing about Benedict Cumberbatch, but you have to remember he’s married, and famous, and pretty much unobtainable. You should try to find a new, non-famous man to crush on, so that you actually have a chance at starting a relationship with him.
  6. You never change out of your pajamas. If you only leave the house to go to work, you need to rearrange your schedule. You need to find some time to go out and have fun, so that you can meet other singles.
  7. You can’t remember how to kiss. Yes, it’s just like riding a bicycle. Of course, if it’s been so long since you’ve dated someone that you’re actually worried you’ll do something wrong when smooching, then you really need to put yourself out there more.
  8. You never approach the men you like. If you like someone, then you need to walk up to him and say hello. If you just let him walk out of your life, then you’ll be single forever.
  9. The only interaction you have is with your pet. Your dog loves you, but not in the same way that a boyfriend would. As much as you adore your puppy, he isn’t giving you the human interaction you need.
  10. You’re just plain lonely. You’re the only one who can change how lonely you feel. That’s why you need to leave the house and find someone who would be thrilled to spend time with you.
