Needing A Good Cry & 11 Other Things That Aren’t Signs of Weakness

A woman’s strength shouldn’t be questioned any time she needs a cry or a strong drink. Strong women tend to be very hard on themselves when they feel like they’re acting weak or needy, when in actuality, they’re still being just as fierce as always. You can be a tough, independent alpha woman, and still partake in these 12 things:

  1. Searching for love. Strong women go after everything they want in life, including love. You can admit that you’d like to find a life partner, put in the effort to make that happen, and accomplish all of your other life goals as well.
  2. Finding a way to forgive. You absolutely have the right to withhold forgiveness from anyone that’s hurt you in the past. However, if forgiveness is something that’ll help you heal and move on, then it’s not the weak thing to do. As long as you don’t allow that person to hurt you again, then you’re just finding a way to let go of your anger and get on with your life.
  3. Eating all the ice cream. Strong women overcome societal pressures and allow themselves to have a pizza or ice cream binge, guilt-free. Occasionally giving in to cravings or indulging in treats is just something happy, well-rounded women do.
  4. Wanting a little chivalry and romance. Strong women can want chivalry, too. These things aren’t mutually exclusive, so there’s no reason to choose between feminism and romance.
  5. Needing the support of your friends and family. Being strong means knowing when you need the support of your loved ones. You can go farther and accomplish more when you have a team behind you.
  6. Killing a bottle of wine by yourself. It happens so there’s no point in feeling bad about it the next day. Yes- it’s probably not a good idea to do this every day, but you deserve to treat yourself and destress. You’ve seriously earned a couple hours of relaxation, so enjoy it.
  7. Reminiscing about the past. It’s OK to reminisce about your childhood or an old boyfriend. You aren’t reverting back to a weaker version of yourself, you’re just remembering the journey that made you the strong woman you are today.
  8. Throwing in the towel. Sometimes quitting is actually a braver option than powering through. When a job, friendship, or relationship is holding you back and making you miserable, strong women do what’s best for themselves and walk away.
  9. Engaging in compromise. There are plenty of things a woman shouldn’t compromise on, but a little give and take in life is healthy and normal. Refusing to compromise on anything makes you intolerable, not tough.
  10. Binge watching a guilty pleasure show. We all have spent an entire day with Netflix watching a less than stellar show in marathon form. Strong women tend to lead very stressful lives, so there’s no shame in occasionally escaping that stress with an entire season of Scandal or Gilmore Girls.
  11. Taking a break for yourself. Yes, success takes a lot of strength, dedication, and hard work. However, taking a little time for self-care isn’t being weak or lazy, it’s completely necessary in order to keep on killin’ it long term.
  12. Needing a good cry. Sometimes you’re going to cry, because life is hard! Bottling up your feelings won’t make you tougher, it will just prevent you from dealing and moving on. Needing a good cry doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re participating in the healing process.
