I don’t know about you, but there’s no movie that makes me happier than Mamma Mia! I can literally watch it 100 times and never get tired of it. Who doesn’t love singing along to ABBA at the top of your lungs with the likes of Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried? Ugh, it’s the best. And while the second one wasn’t as good, it was still well worth watching. But things are about to get better, because the movie creators says a third Mamma Mia! movie is on the way.

- Mamma Mia! was meant to be a trilogy. According to Judy Craymer, a producer and co-creator of the films, Mamma Mia! was always meant to have three parts. While it’s unclear what the third movie will be about, all I need to know is that it’s happening and I will be there once it hits theaters.
- The script hasn’t been written yet. Craymer said that she was supposed to spend her lockdown time thinking about bringing the third Mamma Mia! movie to life, but she’s struggled to concentrate in the midst of everything going on. “I was meant to have been getting on with that [a third movie], in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” she told The Daily Mail. “I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”
- The third Mamma Mia! movie could use new music. Craymer hinted that the next movie could use new songs written by ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, which has been written for an upcoming virtual concert due for release in September 2020. That sounds exciting!
- So far, it hasn’t been greenlit. While we know Mamma Mia! 3 could be on the cards and that Craymer is up for it, Universal hasn’t officially ordered it yet, so at the moment, it’s only a glimmer of an idea. Here’s hoping that in the next couple of years, it’ll become a reality.
