Lottery Winner Dresses Like Darth Vader To Collect $95 Million Check

A Jamaican man turned up to claim his massive $95 million lottery jackpot check in a full Darth Vader outfit to keep his true identity a secret. The man, known only as “W Brown,” bought his ticket at Di Endz Sports Bar in the city May Pen earlier this month, never daring to dream that he’d soon be a multi-millionaire.

  1. The oversized check is part of the fun. Sure, it could be possible to forgo that whole ceremony, I imagine, but collecting a gigantic check with your prize money listed on it is one of the fun parts of winning the lottery (you know, besides all the cash). Gail Abrahams, the Vice President of Marketing, Communication and Sponsorship for lottery group Supreme Ventures, presented Brown with his, and he posed as the classic Star Wars character beside her.
  2. The win was a bit of a fluke. As Brown explained to Stabroek News, the store he picked up the winning ticket in wasn’t even his usual spot. “I don’t regularly buy from that place, I usually purchase my ticket in Old Harbour or Spanish Town, but I was on the road so I just stopped there,” he recalled. Looks like that was a good choice!
  3. He’s been buying the same set of numbers for nearly 20 years. While there have been a few replacements here and there, Brown has consistently played mostly the same numbers for the better part of two decades. He said he chose them based on “rakes” and other numbers that have held specific meaning for him over the years.
  4. Brown always knew he would win the lottery. “Life has always been very rough. I come from a poor family, sometimes I couldn’t attend school because my parents didn’t have it, but I told myself that God will help me one day so I can help my family,” he said. Brown added that he’s still trying to decide what to do with the money because he doesn’t want to waste it and wants to ensure it’s going to good use.
  5. He hasn’t told too many people about the win just yet. Probably a good thing! God knows everyone comes out of the woodwork when there’s suddenly loads of money to be given away. Keep it to yourself, Darth!
