High School Musical is easily one of the best and most successful Disney franchises in the company’s history, and for good reason: it’s amazing! The songs are insanely addictive, the storylines are fun and full of silly histrionics, and the cast is just perfect. While it might have seemed like it was time to let the series go, that’s not true! A High School Musical reunion is happening TONIGHT and I honestly can’t wait.
- It’s part of the Disney Family Singalong. ABC is airing the Disney Family Singalong on Thursday, April 16 at 8 p.m. EST. The special will include appearances from tons of celebrities performing your favorite Disney songs while also shedding light on the importance of nonprofit organization Feed America. If the special itself wasn’t good enough, a High School Musical reunion takes it over the top.
- Most of the East High Wildcats will be there. Thanks to director Kenny Ortega, we’ll get to meet up with Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella), Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay), Corbin Bleu (Chad), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan) and Monique Coleman (Taylor) again as they team up for a rendition of “We’re All In This Together.” It just gets better and better!
- Sadly, Zac Efron (Troy) can’t make it. His schedule is a little busier than most, it seems (yes, even during a global health crisis), but don’t worry, we won’t have to go entirely without Troy. According to the Los Angeles Times, Efron will send a little message along for the program, so that’s something.
- We should all thank Ashley Tisdale for this. According to Ortega, Tisdale’s decision to post a video of herself on TikTok recreating “We’re All In This Together” served as the inspiration for the High School Musical reunion. “I think Ashley [Tisdale] started this whole movement with her home video,” he told Deadline. “I can’t imagine that Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, who wrote this song, had any idea that it would have the legs and perhaps mean more now than when we first did it.”
