I’m A High Maintenance Woman & I’m Proud Of It

I’ll be honest — I’m pretty high maintenance when it comes to my appearance. I love blow outs, spray tans, fake nails and lashes, the whole nine yards. Being true to yourself is important, so I don’t feel bad about wanting to look good. Some people might roll their eyes at me, but here’s why I’m proud of the time and effort I put into my appearance:

  1. Sometimes you need to be as fierce as Beyonce.Being high maintenance isn’t about being pretty, it’s about putting yourself together in a way that makes you feel fierce. When you need to channel your inner bad bitch and conquer the world, your high maintenance look helps you slay all day.
  2. When you look good, you feel good. You’re not high maintenance for anyone but yourself. You aren’t trying to impress guys or your girlfriends, you’re just doing what feels right for you. You feel good when you look good, so you have no problem investing in your looks.
  3. Getting ready is a relaxing ritual.Sure- yoga is great, but have you tried putting on makeup for 45 minutes? The ritual of getting ready is really relaxing for a lot of people, and it’s a relatively healthy way to destress.
  4. It’s OK to put yourself first sometimes.Your friends, family, and job can live without you for an hour while you get a blow out or a pedicure. If you get in the habit of always prioritizing yourself last, you might not get a moment for yourself until retirement.
  5. Shopping is therapeutic.Yes, girl stuff costs money, but so does a therapist! If a little retail therapy here and there helps you keep your act together, why not? Occasional splurging is healthy.
  6. You can spend your hard earned money any way you choose. You don’t need judgments from other people about how you spend your money. Just because some people think the things you spend on are frivolous or unnecessary doesn’t mean that they actually are. You’re a grown woman who can spend your money however you want, and there are definitely things low maintenance women spend on that you choose to skip.
  7. Makeup causes you to feel powerful. When your winged liner is sharp enough to cut a man, you feel powerful enough to handle anything.
  8. Variety keeps things fresh and interesting. Having a low maintenance look is great for other people, but you need a little more variety in life. You enjoy how many different looks you can choose from when you’re stocked up on makeup, clothes, hair products, and accessories, and you get bored easily when you don’t change things up often.
  9. You’re always prepared to go anywhere. You almost never need to turn down spontaneous plans because you’re under-dressed. When you’re killing it all the time, you’re prepared for anything.
  10. Men are high maintenance, too.Women seem to be the ones who always get the high maintenance label, but guys can spend just as much time on themselves. Some people are just happier being a little high maintenance regardless of their gender, and there’s no shame in being true to who you are and making yourself happy.
