If You Know He’s Wrong For You But You’re Scared To Start Over, Read This

You tell your friends that you’re happy in your relationship and you’re sure that things will work out in the end but if you’re being honest with yourself, you know you don’t really mean it. You need to know that it isn’t shameful to end things and start over again when you’re with the wrong person. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been together, it isn’t too late to get a new lease on relationships and reinvent your future.

  1. HE ISN’T THE ONLY ONE WHO’LL FIND YOU ATTRACTIVE. It can be so easy to stay with your toxic boyfriend when you think about trying to find someone new and striking out. You’re hot as hell and you aren’t undesirable just because you haven’t dated in a long time. Understand that there are guys who will jump at the chance to treat you right, which is better than what your current boyfriend is giving you.
  2. THERE REALLY ARE A LOT OF FISH IN THE SEA, SERIOUSLY. It seems like everyone you know is getting married and having babies, but I promise that’s not the case (and it’s not a competition, anyway). There are still plenty of guys out there who are single and looking for an amazing woman like you. You won’t be the last single person on earth if you start over.
  3. YOU HAVE A LOT TO OFFER. You aren’t desperate for love. You won’t have to be begging someone to love you because you have so much to offer in a relationship. You’ll attract the kind of guys that you deserve if you simply demand it. Don’t underestimate how much you bring to the table and don’t let someone who doesn’t appreciate those things exploit you.
  4. YOU CAN GET BACK INTO DATING EVEN IF IT’S BEEN AWHILE. There’s no shame in getting back into the dating game again even if it’s been years. Sure, you’re going to be rusty at first and it’ll be uncomfortable, but you’ll get over it! I guarantee there are other guys who are feeling the exact same way and would love to laugh about the awkwardness of dating together.
  5. You Don’t Need To LOWER YOUR STANDARDS FOR SOMEONE ELSE. You may feel comfortable in your relationship, but what are you compromising for that comfort? Are you giving up your expectations, your values or your goals? You don’t need to lower your standards to have love. The higher you keep your standards, the more toxic people you’ll cut out of your life. It may sound painful to lose these people, but remember that you’re only making room for people who meet those standards.
  6. BEING ALONE IS BETTER THAN BEING TRAPPED IN A BAD RELATIONSHIP. It’s a hard pill to swallow but it’s absolutely true that it’s better to be alone and uncomfortable than to be comfortable in an unhealthy relationship. When you’re uncomfortable, you’re growing and getting stronger. Instead of running from that temporary pain, embrace it and use it to make a better life. You’re stronger than you think.
  7. YOU HAVE SO MUCH LIFE TO LIVE OUTSIDE YOUR RELATIONSHIP. Even though relationships are a huge part of life, there’s so much more to it. You’re a person who’s full of life and interests with so many things to explore and pursue. You can work on your career, set big personal goals and learn new skills. Set your sights on all the adventures you can go on without a partner and see who joins you for the ride.
  8. YOU DON’T WANT TO LIVE WITH REGRETS. In 10 years, what will you regret from staying with this person? Take time to look at the long-term effects of staying in this relationship. Remember that leaving an unhealthy marriage is much more difficult than breaking off a toxic relationship now. Don’t waste time with people who will cause you to regret your life decisions down the road.
  9. LISTEN TO YOUR GUT INSTINCT. You have that feeling in your gut for a reason. If everything was positive and right, you wouldn’t feel reservations or doubts. The thoughts that keep you up at night are there to serve as a red flag, letting you know that something is off. Don’t brush these feelings off. Instead, take the time to be alone and face your thoughts head-on. Critically analyze why things don’t feel right and make decisions based on what you find. Your instincts are a gift — take advantage of them.
  10. YOU CAN’T LET FEAR HOLD YOU BACK FROM WHAT YOU REALLY WANT. When it comes to getting the life you really want, you have to take the bull by the horns. You have to get it in your heart to never let fear hold you back from your goals and what you want to build. You’re strong enough to make this decision for yourself and overcome your fear.
  11. YOU’RE NOT ALONE. Even though you have to make this decision on your own, you’re not alone. You have friends and people who care about you who will be there for you no matter what. Don’t be afraid to lean on your friends and be open with your feelings. It’s okay to feel sad or lonely, but I bet you anything you have friends or family who are going to help you through it.
