Colorado Dog Delivers Groceries To Elderly Neighbor Who Is Self-Isolating

While it’s important for us all to be staying home as much as possible, there are some people who are incredibly vulnerable who literally can’t leave the house to buy groceries or pick up their prescriptions. Thankfully, for folks in Manitou Springs, Colorado, there’s a dog who delivers groceries to neighbors in need.

  1. Sunny the golden retriever is a very good boy. Sunny’s owner, Karen Eveleth, can’t go in person to help her longtime neighbor Renee Hellman, so she decided to use her dog instead. Since Renee has breathing issues and must stay in, Sunny delivers the shopping to her.
  2. They have a good process going. Renee gives Karen a list of what she needs at the grocery store, which Karen then picks up when she goes. Once she gets back, she bags up Renee’s stuff and the dog delivers it — and gets lots of nice head rubs as a reward.
  3. Renee is more than pleased to see Sunny. As she told KKTV, having the dog deliver her groceries doesn’t just help ensure she gets her necessities but also makes her smile. “What a wonderful thing, just a sweet thing. So he started doing the schlepping, back and forth. It’s been fun, it’s been a real treat,” she said. “Little things like Sunny coming over to visit is nice, and it makes you feel good. It’s a way of communicating.”
  4. Sunny doesn’t just deliver groceries. This precious dog also gets the mail for his owner and even picks up trash when they’re out for walks. It’s unclear whether Karen taught Sunny to do this or if it’s something the pup has just picked up on his own. Either way, it’s clear he loves being a helper and his efforts are much appreciated. Here’s hoping he gets lots of treats for his hard work!
