Bodyguard Testifies Amber Heard Spat, Punched, And Threw Red Bull Can At Johnny Depp

A security guard who works for Johnny Depp has testified that Amber Heard spat, punched, and threw a can of Red Bull at the Pirates of the Caribbean actor during their marriage. Travis McGivern appeared in court via video link today, May 2, as the first witness in Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in response to a 2018 op-ed she wrote about her alleged experience of domestic violence inflicted by Depp.

  1. McGivern said he met Heard in 2013. They met two years before Heard and Depp were married and said that at first, their relationship was “super loving” and “happy.” However, he added that they would have frequent arguments that became even more explosive after they returned from Australia in March 2015.
  2. He recalled one fight in particular that painted Heard in a negative light. McGivern said at one point after the Australia trip, Depp and Heard began to fight and she began calling him names and shouting, making Depp want to leave. According to McGivern, Heard labeled Depp a “f*****g deadbeat dad” and a “f*****g c***.” She also reportedly insulted McGivern for trying to remove Depp from the apartment.
  3. Another argument was said to have gotten violent. McGivern said that on March 23, 2015, Depp asked McGivern to come to the penthouse of Eastern Columbia Building with Debbie Lloyd, his nurse. Once he arrived, McGivern said Heard threw a can of Red Bull at Depp from the upper level of the penthouse, which hit Depp in the back. She is then said to have thrown a purse or bag at him and spitting at him, which made Depp angry.
  4. Heard left the apartment soon after. After leaving with her sister Whitney, McGivern said Depp started to throw the clothes out of Heard’s closet. He tried to leave when the women returned but another confrontation broke out, ending with Heard allegedly punching Depp with a closed fist in the side of his face. Questioned as to how Depp responded to this attack, McGivern responded: “a look of shock… what just happened? Where did that come from?”
  5. McGivern insisted that Depp never retaliated. He testified that after the punch was thrown, he removed Depp from the penthouse and developed “a nice little shiner” from where Heard hit him. He went on to say that Depp never responded to being hit by Heard and didn’t retaliate in any way. Upon cross-examination, McGivern denied that Depp pushed or shoved Whitney Heard and insisted he never tried to hit her with the cast on his hand.
