7 Struggles All Short Girls Will Understand

We all have our inferiority complexes. Women often size each up based on almost every single detail. But when it comes to height, there’s physically nothing you can do but embrace it… or get knee implants. Sometimes, it’s fun to be the short one, but other times it just plain sucks. Here are 7 struggles all of us short girls can relate to.

  1. You have to position yourself properly in order to even be in the photo. On a girl’s night out, a group selfie shot is always to be expected. However, if you’re short, you better make sure you’re in the right spot or else consider yourself invisible. It’s never fun when just your arm makes it in the photo.
  2. You wear heels, but everyone else does too, so it defeats the purpose of being taller. Wearing heels can be a huge pain, but sometimes it’s fun to be girly once in a while and get a little dressed up for special occasions. When you’re short, feeling tall in heels can change your entire attitude, even make you feel more confident. Unfortunately, all of your friends also felt like wearing heels so you end up being the shortest yet again.
  3. You have to ask for help to reach something that’s too high to reach. Nothing hits the ego more than being physically disadvantaged due to your height, even when it’s a small task such as not being able to reach something. When you’re out and you have to ask for help to get something down, let’s admit that it feels a bit belittling.
  4. You always end up with some kind of nickname referring to how short you are. Nicknames somehow always stick, especially if it’s a catchy one. Nobody gets stuck with nicknames more than short people. Yes, they’re fun and all, but can get pretty annoying after a while.
  5. You can forget about sharing clothes with friends that aren’t your height. You love that dress that your friend has and you ask to borrow it.  You try it on, however, it’s meant to reach your calves and you’re dragging it all over the floor. It sucks not being able to fit into that extra foot of clothing.
  6. If you’re going to a bar, you often get carded just because you’re short and assumed to be underage. For some reason, being short is often correlated with age. And when it comes to bars and clubs, being short often leads to getting carded even with years of drinking under your belt. It may be flattering, but also redundant.
  7. The cute guy you were staring at couldn’t see you standing behind your friends. Being accidentally hidden behind your tall friend is basically the female version of cock-blocking. You see him, but unfortunately he does not see you. So while you’re trying to get his attention by giggling and twirling your hair, he has no idea you exist. Yes, guys do love short girls, but they have to be able to see you first.
