12 Totally Regular Things That Will Bring You And Your Guy Closer Than Ever

Dating is an adventure and exciting activities brings people together, but sharing in the day to day moments as a couple is just as important. It might not seem obvious at first, but being able to make anything fun, no matter how normal, is the mark of a great relationship.

  1. Embrace your inner Julia Child. The classic movie scene with an adorable flour fight in the kitchen may not be realistic, but tackling meal prep together is a great way to bond, laugh and accomplish something as a team. Whether your culinary masterpiece comes out perfectly and you can share in the pride, or it’s a total disaster and you end up learning how you each deal with disappointment, cooking together is bound to be worth the mess.
  2. Laugh every day. It sounds cliché, but laughing often with someone you love is one of the best feelings on the planet. Let loose, have fun, and tell corny jokes just to make each other smile. You’ll be amazed at how much your mood can change when your cheeks hurt from smiling.
  3. The morning crossword is easier with two brains. Being together at the start of the day can set the mood for a very productive morning. Taking a few minutes to tackle the daily puzzle will wake you up, get your nose out of your phone and give you a bit of quality time before you both leave for work.
  4. Laundry doesn’t have to be a chore. It piles up all week and becomes the dreaded task that no one wants to do, but think of it another way: what a perfect excuse to throw on that cute little thong he hasn’t seen in awhile? Better yet, throw on one of his oversized t-shirts from his pile and surprise him with a peep show. The idea of laundry will never be boring again.
  5. Catch the travel bug. Exploring new places alone is great, but being able to go on adventures with a partner is huge. It doesn’t need to be extravagant, experience or far away, as long as you’re spending time together. That lake by your house that you visit every summer may not seem special to you anymore, but knowing you’re sharing it with him will make him feel like a million bucks.
  6. Grocery shopping is better with a buddy. Whether you’re restocking the pantry or grabbing ingredients to cook dinner for two, there’s something about going up and down the aisles with your guy that feels really good. Besides, you’ll learn important things about him, like whether he knows there are sections besides the frozen food…
  7. Netflix and chill the real way. We all have our guilty pleasure shows and channels, and being willing to watch what the other in binging on is a great way to get closer to your guy. Curling up to cuddle on the couch to unwind after a long day can do wonders for your mood.
  8. You might actually enjoy the gym. If you’re both into fitness, working out together is a great way to spend extra time hanging out. Once you get over the seeing each other sweaty, you might start to understand the whole “swolemate” thing you keep seeing on Instagram.
  9. Errands can be fun. Who says the random stops you have to make around town have to be boring? Going with your guy to the hardware store, or taking him with you to chat while you get your nails done might sound weird, but it’s all about getting in extra quality time together. Taking interest in each other’s hobbies does wonders for a relationship.
  10. Don’t skimp on the holiday decorations. Putting things up around the house is a perfect example of something you’ve been doing your whole life that feels entirely different once you’re doing it with a guy. Deciding which holidays to get excited about and how to celebrate them is an important step for a couple, and potentially sets the tone for your future lives together.
  11. Long drives turn into adventures. There’s something nice about riding solo and getting the time to yourself, but when someone else is riding shotgun you won’t sit in silence from point A to point B. Time in the car is great to vent about your day, talk about that the breaking news you overheard at work, or to have a good old-fashioned jam session. Besides, couples who sing along to the radio together stay together.
  12. You never have to drink alone. Whether celebrating good news, toasting to your future together or clearing your head from an awful day at work, raising a glass is a lot more fun when your guy can join in. Being able to share in each other’s moods, good or bad, will bring you much closer together.
We only have one chance to live this life and I'm making the most of it. I'll make plenty of mistakes along the way but each one will send me further down the right path.
