All of us independent women like to act like we’ve got everything figured out, but that’s far from the truth. Some of us are lost, confused, and easily offended. We’re just good at putting on a happy face because we know that there’s no sense in dwelling on our problems. Even though we’d never admit it, here are a few things all of us independent women secretly want:

  1. To stop being judged. We try not to care when others act like our lifestyle is invalid, but it can really get on our nerves. If we never get married or have kids, we want others to understand that we’re still happy without a family.
  2. To be pampered. We love our jobs. We love living alone. We love that we’re capable of taking care of ourselves. Of course, every once in a while, it would be nice to have a day off. Having someone around to pamper us by rubbing our back and making us a meal would be the perfect little vacation.
  3. To be praised. We don’t need approval from others in order to feel powerful and successful. Of course, when we do an amazing job at work, we’d like to be complimented on it. It’s always nice to have our work acknowledged.
  4. To receive approval. Some independent women choose single life over marriage. Some independent women choose a career in art over a career in business. Since we follow our passion, our parents might not approve of our choices. Even though our family’s approval isn’t everything, it would be nice to have it.
  5. To be treated with respect. Some men call independent women bitches. They think we’re man haters, even though we’re really just comfortable enough to live a life that may or may not include a man. Judgmental people aren’t worth our time, but it would still be nice if they treated us with respect.
  6. To find a close friend. We don’t need anyone else in order to be happy, but we can’t change the fact that humans are social creatures. Having a close friend or two to talk to would make life easier. Our dark days always seem little brighter when we know someone is there for us.
  7. To be loved. At the end of the day, we all want to be loved. It doesn’t have to be by a man. It could be by a family member, a friend, or a pet. We just need to know that we hold a special place in someone’s heart.
  8. To be treated to dinner. Even though we can afford our own meals, it would be nice if someone treated us to dinner every once in a while. It’s a sweet gesture that would make us feel loved.
  9. To find an independent man. Independent women don’t need to stay single. If we want a boyfriend, we’ll go out and get one. Of course, we won’t settle for anyone needy, because we need an independent man that understands us.
  10. To stop being generalized. Not all independent women are single, living on their own, and in positions of power. Some of us are in happy relationships. Some of us are unemployed. We come in many different shapes and sizes.
