10 Things Bisexual Women Are Tired Of Hearing

It’s 2016, and women are still getting crap for being bisexual. You’d like to live in a world that’s free of ignorance and stereotypes, but that’s not the reality of where we are today. If you’re a woman who’s interested in both males and females, you’re likely tired of hearing these 10 things:

  1. “That’s hot.” You don’t identify as bi in order to titillate people, and you cringe when men obviously start picturing you fondling other women in their minds. You wish people could wait until they get home to involve you in their mental fantasies.
  2. “You’re just saying that for attention.” The kind of people who give you attention for being bi are usually the kind of people you would prefer to stay far, far away. Also, you don’t appreciate being accused of lying about your sexual orientation and being an attention whore.
  3. “Bisexual people don’t exist. You just haven’t accepted that you’re gay yet.” You know who you are, and some random person with outdated views on sexuality isn’t going to shake that up. You know that sexuality is on a spectrum that you fall somewhere in the middle of, and no close minded person is going to change your stance on that.
  4. “Is it considered cheating on your partner if you hook up with someone of a different sex than them?” Once people find out that you’re bi, they feel entitled to intimate details about your relationship. The personal questions can get really X-rated, and it feels like some people don’t understand that you might want parts of your personal life to remain private.
  5. “Does your boyfriend/girlfriend get to watch if you hook up with someone of a different sex than them?” Again, that’s extremely personal and private.
  6. “Do you date women or just hook up with them?” You could ask them the same question about whoever they’re attracted to. Like anyone else, you don’t hook up with everyone you date and you don’t date everyone you hook up with. Simple enough.
  7. “You’re just going through a phase.” Nope, they’re just going through a phase of being insanely judgey and annoying. Sexuality is not equivalent to a clothing trend you will grow out of as you get older.
  8. “You’ll probably never get married, right?” Why? Because you’ll never be able to choose between a man and a woman? All married people pick one person to be their life partner over everyone else, even though they are sexually attracted to other people. You’re just as capable of falling in love and making a commitment as anyone else.
  9. “Don’t try to turn me.” You’re not a vampire, you can’t “turn” someone against their will. You’re also not some kind of aggressive predator trying to have sex with every woman who crosses your path, regardless of their orientation.
  10. “Wanna make out?” Being attracted to men and women doesn’t mean you’re attracted to EVERYONE. Your sexual orientation doesn’t make you any easier than any other given woman, and you don’t accept advances from just anyone. You’re probably not interested in hooking up with someone who says this after finding out that you’re bi, and you’re definitely not interested in being a drunk story for her to share over brunch the next day.
