10 Reasons Guys Love Quirky Girls, Because Sometimes “Normal” Is Boring

As an oddball, I lived my entire early life hating myself for being different. While other girls were playing with Barbie, I was pretending to be Xena. While other kids were talking about Britney Spears, I was rocking out to Orgy. For the longest time, I honestly believed that my social life and dating life would always be bereft of people. It took me a while to realize it, but being a bit of a black sheep has actually helped my love life immensely. Guys are, in fact, drawn to women who are different. Here’s why guys like quirky girls so much.

  1. We’re more real. When you’re looking at girls who are cookie-cutter representations of society’s expectations, it’s often hard to tell whether or not they’re that way because they want to fit in, or because they actually are that way. With girls that are a bit offbeat, you can usually tell that they aren’t faking it. We’re that way because that’s who we are, and that’s refreshing!
  2. We’re exciting. Strange means that we’re unpredictable. We don’t think the same way others do, so we’ll keep you guessing for quite some time. That doesn’t mean a guy won’t know where he stands with us, but rather that we keep things fresh and never get too complacent.
  3. We stand out. It’s true. Standing out from the crowd is usually what keeps guys around, or at the very least, keeps them curious. Guys like quirky girls because we’re not afraid of not blending in. Sticking out like a sore thumb is par for the course, and we don’t avoid it — we relish it!
  4. We’ve got guts. Girls who dare to be different also are naturally edgy. It takes balls to be weird, wacky, and unique. Being gutsy, bold, and daring is what being edgy is all about. Even if you’re the quietest nerd out there, actually being able to be you make a huge statement that many are often too scared to make on their own.
  5. Our strangeness is actually kinda cute. Quirky girls tend to have habits that guys find especially cute. Whether it’s playing ukeleles, sneezing like a bunny, or just having a massive toe sock collection, trust me when I say that guys find quirks oddly irresistible. They’re what make us memorable in their eyes.
  6. We tend to be unusually passionate. Passion is the name of the game. We live life by our own rules and often will bring that same zeal for living into every aspect of a relationship. If a guy finds himself in the company of a quirky girl, he’s likely going to find one of the most passionate lovers out there.
  7. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. If there’s one buzzkill that guys can’t stand, it’s an image-obsessed girl. They like to see a girl who can laugh at her own clumsiness. They adore girls who don’t freak out over their boyfriends wearing the wrong shoes at the club. It’s a huge breath of fresh air in a world that’s often way too focused on appearances. We’re able to see the lighter side of most things and realize most of the stuff people get hyped up about is really no big deal.
  8. We also don’t play dumb. I personally have heard of many men who view the “playing dumb” game many mainstream girls do as a major turn-off. I have yet to see someone who’s offbeat and quirky play this game. We just don’t have the time for it! We’re super smart and we like that people know it. Why shouldn’t we show off our natural intelligence?
  9. We can introduce them to new experiences, hobbies, and foods they’ve never even heard of before. Aren’t you tired of dealing with mainstream stuff? Hanging out with the oddball girl might just turn you onto trip-hop, poetry slams, or flyboarding. Guys who want adventure and new experiences will always gravitate to the girl that actively lives outside the box.
  10. We know that perfect often translates to boring. Perfect is predictable. Perfect may always be acceptable, but it’s never going to offer the unique flavor of someone who truly is alive. Quirky girls revel in the human experience, and sadly, that’s something that Barbie will never be able to do.
