10 Reasons To Be Kinder To Everyone You Meet

If there’s one thing the world could use more of, it’s kindness. From our friends and family to strangers we cross paths with on our way to work or at the grocery store, there’s something to be said for showing warmth and care in our everyday actions. Here’s why we should all be kinder to everyone we meet:

  1. Being kind feels good. If you’re feeling down, an act of kindness can be an immediate pick-me-up. Studies have shown that being kind can make you happier. Giving back to someone else, even in a small way, can give you that emotional lift that you might need to get you through the day.
  2. What goes around comes around. If you’re kind to someone, the chances are that they’ll return the favor at some point or another. While this shouldn’t be the motivation behind your kindness, putting good things into the world often encourages more of the same.
  3. Kindness is contagious. When you’re kind to someone, you make them happier. When someone’s happier, they tend to be kinder to others, thus making them happier, too. And the cycle goes on and on and on! Your one small act of kindness could make ripples that you can’t even imagine.
  4. Kindness can change lives. It might seem like a little gesture, but sometimes it’s the smallest things that can make the biggest difference. Being kind could not only change a life, it could actually save one, which is all the more reason to do it.
  5. Kindness is free. You might think that you can’t be generous because maybe you’re strapped for cash, but kindness doesn’t necessarily take money. Kindness is a state of mind. It costs nothing. It can be a smile and a conversation with the cashier at the supermarket,  a compliment to someone in work, or going the extra mile to relieve a burden from a colleague.
  6. Kindness will make you friends. Being kind will earn you lasting, worthwhile friendships, and that’s something we could all use more of in life.
  7. Kindness opens up your mind and heart to others. When you start looking for opportunities to be kinder, you start paying more attention to others. You start looking at their lives, their problems, their struggles, their worries, their joys and their wins. You start seeing the person as a whole, and you’ll start to truly love and appreciate them.
  8. Kindness will make you a better person. Want to be content with your life? Want to be proud of the person you are? Want to wake up every day knowing that you’re a good person who’s doing their best? Random acts of kindness will make you a better person. It will make you happier. It’ll make you more content. In other words, it’ll enrich your life.
  9. Kindness can be made into a habit. When something is habitual, it’s easier to do because there’s no conscious thought put into it. Creating good habits will mean that your life will be effortlessly better.
  10. Kindness brings meaning to our lives. One of the biggest depressants of our modern era is that feeling of emptiness. Humans constantly strive for meaning in their lives. Doing good can relieve the sense of non-action. It can make your life very meaningful, even if you don’t have everything figured out.
