10 Decisions You Shouldn’t Make Without Your Boyfriend’s Input

You’re a strong, independent woman, so you don’t have to ask your boyfriend’s permission for anything. Of course, it’s only right to consult him before you make any major decisions, especially if they’re going to impact him. That’s why you can’t think of yourself as a singular person in a serious relationship. You need to think of yourself as a team and start making joint decisions. Here are 10 decisions you definitely shouldn’t be making without talking to him first.

  1. If you’ll stop taking your pill. Even though you’d be the one carrying the child, you should never try for a baby without consulting your man. He deserves to know the risks he’s taking every time he sleeps with you. You don’t want to trick him into becoming a father, do you?
  2. If you’ll quit your job. Even though the decision is ultimately yours, you should consult your boyfriend before quitting your job. If you live together and both depend on your paycheck, then you two will need to figure out how to pay the rent until you find a new form of work.
  3. If you’ll adopt a pet. If you two live together, you need to ask him how he feels about bringing home a puppy before you actually go through with the idea. It wouldn’t be fair to force him to feed, walk, and play with an animal that he doesn’t actually want.
  4. If you’ll spend the night out. If you were out partying with some of your friends and drank too much, then you need to talk to your man before you stay the night at your friend’s house — especially if that friend is a guy. You don’t want your man to stay up all night wondering where you are and if you’re cheating on him.
  5. Which house you’ll buy. If you plan on living with him, you shouldn’t put an offer down on a house without consulting him first. He might hate the look of the place, the location, or the price. It’s best to talk to him before you make any big decisions, especially when they involve money.
  6. Where you’ll go on vacation. Don’t book tickets for Disney, because he might want to go to the Grand Canyon. Unless you want to take separate vacations, you need to sit down and figure out where you want to spend the summer together. That way, he won’t be bitter over a decision you made for him.
  7. If you’ll visit an ex. Your man is allowed to have female friends, and you’re allowed to have male friends. However, it gets tricky when it comes to exes. That’s why you should tell your partner when your ex contacts you to see if he’s comfortable with the idea of you two being buddy buddy.
  8. If you’ll hang out with his family. If you usually only see his family when he’s around, but his sister suddenly wants to have brunch with you, talk to your man about it. He should be happy that you two are getting along, but you want to let him know on the off chance that he’s uncomfortable with the situation.
  9. If you’ll get plastic surgery. At the end of the day, it’s up to you whether or not you want plastic surgery. However, you should see how he feels about the idea before you go through with it. He might end up making you feel so beautiful that he talks you out of a boob job.
  10. If you’ll watch an episode without him. If you two watch The Walking Dead together every week, but he has to work late one Sunday, ask him if he minds if you watch it without him. It seems silly to get into a fight over a television show, but it happens to plenty of couples.
